2027 Tai Sui: Which Zodiac Signs Fan Tai Sui?

Every winter the same question comes back: which zodiac signs fan Tai Sui (犯太岁) next year? For 2027, the Ding Wei (丁未) Year of the Goat, the answer is the Goat, the Ox, the Dog and the Rat. This guide explains where that list comes from, what each of the four relationships means in BaZi terms, and why your year of birth is only a quarter of the check.

What Tai Sui Is

Tai Sui (太岁) is the ruling energy of the year, and in practice it means the earthly branch of the year. In 2027 that branch is 未, the Goat. Folk tradition also gives each of the sixty years a named general; for Ding Wei it is General Miao Bing (缪丙). To fan Tai Sui simply means that a branch in your chart has a difficult relationship with the branch of the year.

There are four classic difficult relationships, and in 2027 each points to one animal.

The Four Signs That Fan Tai Sui in 2027

Goat: the Year Repeats Your Own Branch (值太岁)

Birth years 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003 and 2015. This is the Ben Ming Nian, your own zodiac year. In BaZi the same branch arriving twice is called Fu Yin (伏吟), a repetition. It tends to bring old themes back for a second look and makes a year feel heavier than the events justify. It is a year for finishing things properly rather than forcing new starts.

Ox: the Direct Clash (冲太岁)

Birth years 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009 and 2021. 丑 and 未 sit opposite each other on the wheel of branches. This is the strongest of the four relationships. A clash means movement: changes of job, home, role or routine, some chosen and some not. Both branches are Earth and both act as storage, so a clash between them is often described as opening a vault, and things that were shelved come out. People who were already planning a change often find that a clash year is when it finally happens.

Dog: Punishment and Break (刑太岁, 破太岁)

Birth years 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018. 戌 and 未 are two of the three branches in the Earth punishment (丑戌未), and they also form a Break pair. Punishment is friction rather than upheaval: misunderstandings, paperwork, rules and small disputes that take more energy than they should. If the Ox branch is also present in your chart, the three-way punishment is complete and the effect is more noticeable.

Rat: the Harm (害太岁)

Birth years 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008 and 2020. 子 and 未 form one of the six Harm pairs. It is the mildest of the four and usually shows up through people: cooperation that turns sour, or help that comes with strings attached. Read agreements carefully and keep expectations explicit.

Check the Date Before You Check the Animal

BaZi years begin at the Start of Spring (Li Chun), around 4 February, not at Chinese New Year. If you were born in January or early February, your BaZi animal may be the one from the year before. Your Birth Year Is Only One of Four Pillars

Zodiac lists look only at the year of birth. A BaZi chart has four branches, one each for the year, month, day and hour, and the Goat year interacts with all of them. In classical terms each pillar is a different area of life:

•Year branch: family background, elders and your wider social circle.

•Month branch: parents, career and the environment you work in.

•Day branch: yourself and your spouse. It is called the spouse palace, and most practitioners weigh it more heavily than the year branch.

•Hour branch: children, students and later-life plans.

So someone born in a Tiger year with 丑 in the day pillar is more directly touched by the 2027 clash than an Ox-year person whose Ox sits only in the year pillar. The reverse is also true: the Goat year combines with 午 (Horse) and joins 亥 (Pig) and 卯 (Rabbit) in a Wood trio, and those helpful links can sit in any pillar too. Is Offending Tai Sui Bad?

Not in itself. A clash or punishment describes instability, and instability has a direction only when you read it against the whole chart. If the clashed branch holds an element that burdens your chart, having it shaken loose can be a relief. If it holds something you rely on, the year needs more care. The ten-year luck pillar you are in matters as much as the year. That is why two people born in the same Ox year can have opposite experiences of 2027. A sensible reading of a clash year is: expect change, leave margin in plans and budgets, and do not start a fight you do not need.

Tai Sui Direction in 2027

In Feng Shui, Tai Sui also has a compass position. In 2027 it sits in the southwest, in the 未 sector (202.5° to 217.5°). The opposite sector, 丑 in the northeast (22.5° to 37.5°), is the Year Breaker (岁破). Tradition advises against major groundbreaking or demolition in either sector during the year, and against sitting for long periods directly facing the Tai Sui direction.

What About Pendants and Tai Sui Rituals?

Praying to Tai Sui, wearing a pendant of a friendly zodiac animal and similar remedies are folk customs. Many families keep them, and there is no harm in a tradition that gives you a calm start to the year. They are not part of BaZi calculation, and nothing in a chart changes because of them. The practical counterpart is more mundane: know which months are most active, and plan around them. In 2027 the Goat month (from 7 July) repeats the year, and the Ox month (from 6 January 2028) clashes with it.
